LA County Executive Leadership Development Program

About

ELDP - Los Angeles County Credential

The Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP) is designed to equip county leaders with essential skills for advancing their careers. In collaboration with Los Angeles County, our objective is to offer an intensive program that dives deeply into leadership, spread across a 15-week period. This comprehensive program encompasses classroom instruction, executive coaching, and group projects, each integral to fostering leadership growth.

This new CSAC and LA County partnership builds upon the award-winning program that was initiated in 2014 to cater to the professional development needs of county leaders transitioning to higher roles. ELDP focuses on ten leadership competencies identified by focus groups as crucial for bridging skill gaps.

Testimonials

I received resources that I still use today. A book on my desk right now is “Managing Public Sector Projects.” That was an area where I had a blind spot. After a sudden departure in my department, I found myself as the interim department head and I immediately began to use a new set of skills that ELDP primed me for.

The one-on-one executive coaching was transformative - helping me set career goals with concrete steps to achieve them. The coach encouraged me to take on stretch assignments and communicate my ambitions, which directly contributed to my progression from Division Chief to Director.

ELDP helped me to slow down and focus on follow-up that is tailored appropriately to the level of relationship and trust I have with the individual.

The ELDP program opened my eyes to the importance of networking inside and outside my department, whether these networks are lateral or upwards. I learned that to further one’s career, you must take the time to work with a mentor, have a sponsor, and establish a wide network of professional relationships.
